Jones 4 out of 4 found this review helpful Our 4 year old Ridgeback mix is the sweetest, funniest dog we've ever had, but every night, he was waking us up at least 3 times with his barking. He barked at every sound, and sometimes I think he just enjoyed the sound of his own bark. We spent hundreds of dollars on bark collars that sprayed him with water, emitted the ultrasonic noise, etc... and NOTHING worked. I bought this product with very little expectation, but the first time I used it, I was amazed! Our dog (Alex) barked ONCE the first night, and in the week and a half that we've been using it, he has only barked once more during the night. I'm extremely happy with the product, and I'm sorry that others haven't had the same success. It certainly did work for us, though! There are some things you have to keep in mind: 1. If there is something REALLY exciting to your dog outside, they are probably going to bark even if the machine goes off (e.g., my poodle will keep barking if someone stops in front of our house with another dog, BUT she won't bark through more minor things that she used to, such as kids driving by on bikes, etc.). 2. The instructions for the product say that you have to give it a week to work. That seems to make sense, since the dog has to learn to associate their barking with the noise. For the first few times they might not realize the sound is occuring because they are barking. My pet-peeve about this product - I'm not sure when it is going off. There is no light that tells me it has emitted the sound (like a similar outdoor product we have does). I don't like this, as I'm worried it will go off when my dog isn't barking. I also will have no idea when to change the battery. Seems like such a simple, necessary thing to leave off of the product. We have a 20 lb. maltipoo who will bark at anything he sees outside when sitting inside looking out the window. As soon as he barks, we turn it on and he stops and runs around with his nose to the floor, apparently looking for the source of the tone. It stops his barking every time and calms him down so he doesn't go right back to barking. It also keeps him from barking non-stop when he's outside. We just put the Bark Off on the porch facing the yard and turn it on. Quiets him immediately. We've even used it to stop him from biting and jumping, since nothing else has helped in that regard. What a joy he is now! I highly recommend Bark Off!!! Glad it's working for us!   July 31, 2010 andi 2 out of 3 found this review helpful I have read all the negative reviews from engineers and other educationed people, but I gotta let you guys know that this thing worked for us within 24 hours. We have 3 mini daschunds that bark incessantly when they think they hear someone outside or when someone comes in the door. They also bark at my husband when he comes in from the garage. Since putting the battery in this device and turning it on (high) the barking has dramatically decreased. Now, make no mistake, dogs bark; but our intent was not to get them to stop completely, but to decrease the noise. I still want to know when someone is coming in the house, just not for 10 minutes at a time...:) I simply put it by the door people always use. I may consider getting one for our family sitting area where we normally are with the dogs, but at this point the one seems to be doing the job. The reason I did not give this device 5 stars is I haven't had it long enough to know about battery life and just basic life span. I would like to note that there is a plug for an adapter to plug into a wall if you'd like to eliminate the use of batteries. Thanks for reading. Brannon 24 out of 25 found this review helpful As the owner of two one-year-old Chihuahua boys, I definitely needed something to train these yappers to stop yapping at ordinary sounds. The Bark Off arrived quickly and worked well at first. My dogs stopped immediately after hearing the sound. Now, I have to rattle it or blow in the little hole on the device for it to emit a sound. The adverts are misleading because the sound is definitely audible to human ears; it makes a loud "click". I also find that it can't simply be left on because it interprets every sound as a bark and starts to give me a headache and wear out my dogs' ears.
